Be smart, play cunning, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps formed from the old English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he established the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
