Be smart, play clever, and master craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French relocated south and settled in southern Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the name of the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and throughout the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he designed the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
